The CSBQ’s new CD, “Copper Street Classics”, is their fourth album and features new classical music arrangements for brass by the quintet. This album contains a blend of Classical, Romantic, and Impressionist-era music gives a new take on some familiar classical tunes.
Representing a new direction in chamber music, The CSBQ's "Evolution of the Brass Quintet" combines the excitement of rock, pop, and jazz music with the virtuosity of the brass quintet. The album features totally unique transcriptions and compositions created by the quintet, for the quintet. Highlighted arrangements include Journey's "Don’t Stop Believin", "First Circle" by Pat Metheny, "Glitter in the Air" by P!nk, and other crowd favorites by Queen, Ben Folds, Billy Joel, and Counting Crows. The group's resident composer and jazz tubist, Stefan Kac, has two compositions featured on the disc. Minneapolis drummer and percussionist Reid Kennedy joins the group on the album
The Copper Street Brass Quintet brings their unique sound to familiar holiday carols, new favorites, and jazzy tunes to the new album "Christmas on Copper Street". A highlight of the disc is horn player Timothy Bradley's brand-new quintet transcription of Tchaikovsky's "Nutcracker Suite". Also included are beautiful arrangements of Sarah McLachlan's "Wintersong" and "Walking in the Air" from the animated movie 'The Snowman'. The CSBQ gets jazzy with Thad Jones' "A Child is Born", a smokin' bebop version of "Sleigh Ride", and a downright dirty "You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch".
